October School Hoidlay Program – Circus Skills

25 October, 2007

Here is another video of the kids taking part in the Circus skills workshop run during the school holidays.

They were able to learn Juggling, Plate Spinning, Unicycling, walking on stilts, the diablo, devil sticks, hoolahoops and other circus skills.

All the kids had a lot of fun.  Many of them were interested in buying some of their own circus equipment.  The place to purchase in Australia is this on-line store:

Circus Shop WA

You can get anything from Unicycles to dangerous knives to juggle.  🙂

We are looking forward to the January School holidays when we are having another Circus Skills workshop for the kids to learn the same sort of skills.

October School Holiday Program – Climbing Wall

22 October, 2007

In October we ran a School Holiday program which included Circus Skills, Painting T-Shirts, Air Rifles and a climbing wall.

This is a video we shot on the day of our good amigo Fernando climbing the wall.  He’s using the most difficult climb [which consisted of only the yellow grips].

The kids absolutely loved the climbing wall as well as the other activities we had with them.  The food was raved about by the kids, especially the roast lunch that was cooked by our own Manager First Class Constable Kay Turner.

17 May, 2007

At the most recent Judo competition on he 12th of May at the Ocean Reef Leisure Centre, hosted by Kano Judo Club, the Gosnells PCYC Judo Club once again had a successful day.  Both competitors from Gosnells succeeded in getting a medal competing in the same divsion.

One of the Gosnells PCYC coahces Gerhard Weaver took the gold medal in the mens under 81kg division, fighting in a division higher than he weighed in at.  Tim Freeman did exceptionally well taking the bronze medal in the same divsion after fighting competitors considerably more experienced than himself losing only to one of his coaches and a first dan blackbelt.

Both players will continue to train and hopefully have further success in whatever challenges are undertaken next.

Judo State Championships 2007

22 April, 2007

At the recent 2007 Judo State Championships held on the 24th of March at the UWA Claremont Campus, Gosnells PCYC Judo Club proved itself as a particularly strong Judo club having a successful days fighting.  All competitors fought well in one of the most demanding competitions of the year.  Gosnells PCYC Judo Club bought home a number of medals, placing in every division entered.

In the young mens under eighty one kilogram division, Robbie Jordan took out second place fighting early in the day.  He then went on to acheive a third placing in the mens under eighty one kilogram division.

One of the Gosnells PCYC coaches, Gerhard Weaver remains undefeated this year, taking out the first placing in the mensunder seventy three kiogram division.

Alicia Berner had an excellent day winning both the womens over seventy eight kilogram division and womens open weight division.

The absence of the mens open weight division meant that our male entrants were not given  another opportunity to compete on the day.

All our fighters are continuing to train hard with targets set a little higher.  All of those qualifying will consider travelling to Adelaide in June for the 2007 Judo National Championships.

On Behalf of the Staff and Members of Gosnells PCYC, I’d like to extend our congratulations to Alicia, Robbie and Gerhard on their great results, and wish them all the best in the National Championships coming up in June.

****

If you are over thirteen years of age and would like to train in Judo, then head down to the PCYC on Tuesday nights at 6PM.  Gerhard and the team train in the Gymnastics Hall.   The cost is $7 per session, with a $20 membership fee which covers you for the calendar year [renewable on the 1st of January each year].

We’d love to see you down here.
